Is a Dalmatian just any breed of dog?

Yes, they are lovely to look at...
But is that what you are looking for?
Dalmatians do not change their spots...

Are you looking for a Dalmatian but are unsure whether the breed is right for you?

Well, you're right to think like this.
People may think all breeds of dog are alike but when a Dalmatian is concerned this is far from being the case. Every Dalmatian is as different as a person's fingerprint, yet as similar as they are spotty.
This isn't a bad thing though. They are the best companions any pet could be, but they need a lot from you in return. If you work 12 hours a day 7 days a week, don't look in their direction. Dalmatians are very dependant dogs and need someone who can offer them the love and attention they require; this is a full time job, believe me! If they don't get this, they often become depressed and distructive. And not just that... you will need to be pretty fit to keep up with their energy levels as they never fail to get fitter and more energetic the older they get!
I have 9 years experience of this, but do you know what? I wouldn't change it for the world.

The love and loyalty these dogs give you in return for their needs, for an experienced owner, is priceless.

So, who am I?
I am Lisa Barrett, owner of Dalamanti Dalmatians.
I am an owner, breeder and exhibitor of this wonderful unique breed.
I live in the beautiful market town of Alnwick, Northumberland with my partner and my 2 adorable Dalmatians, Kenzed High Flyer of Dalamanti (Polo) and Marricdale The Gold Digger of Dalamanti (Chelsea). I have had Polo for 9 years and shown him successfully until retiring him from the ring in 2007. He has a wonderful temperament which passes down to his offspring.
I bought liver & white Chelsea last year from the real quality Marricdale lines thanks to Maree Kenyon. I wanted a bitch as a companion for Polo and as a pet and show dog.

I am a proud member of the British Dalmatian Club, North of England Dalmatian Club, and the Dalmatian Club of Scotland.
All my dogs are BAER hearing tested normal and I ensure my puppies have their hearing tested before being home.
Please look around my website for more information about me and my dogs.
If you are looking for advice on the breed, contact me. If I don't know the answer, I will find someone who does!

Breeders for excellent temperament

There are many ill tempered dogs around. I do whatever I can to ensure the dogs I own aren't among them. Polo is one of the most laid back of characters I have ever owned, and all Chelsea wants to do is please me. I have taken Chelsea to the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme at Northumberland Canine Centre near Alnwick and she has come away with the GOLD award at just 10 months old. For Dalmatians especially, this is a remarkable achievement as it is a very difficult award to earn. I owe special thanks to trainers Roy and Alison and her examiner Jacquie Hall for everything you have done to help us achieve this.
Rest assured if you are looking at my dogs you are looking at a well tempered dog that is safe to have around young children and other animals. I am confident what you see from my two will be what you will get. No disappointments.

If you need advice or just want to know a bit more about the breed, I am always happy to help. I welcome a visitor if you are considering buying a Dalmatian and want to see the breed first. It is a big decision to buy a dog and you must make sure you buy the right breed for you. Dalmatians are great with children and other animals, but on the otherhand they hyper active and are very reliant on constant human company. They can get destructive and distressed if left at home alone for long periods of time and do require lots of exercise daily. So you must be prepared to commit almost all your free time to your dog. Therefore if you cannot decide if the breed is right for you, you can come and meet my dogs to help you. Please free to email me for any advice you need.
